In the 2018–19 season, Edward Nelson makes his Opera Philadelphia debut in Ne Quittez Pas: A Reimagined La voix humaine, where he will sing songs of Francis Poulenc. He will return to the Norwegian National Opera as Dandini in Stefan Herheim’s production of La Cenerentola, debut at the Palm Beach Opera as the title role in Don Giovanni, and sing both Schaunard in La bohème and Papageno in Die Zauberflöte with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra. In concert, he will sing Carmina Burana with the Mobile Symphony and a recital of Lieder at the Four Arts Society in Palm Beach.

Recently, Mr. Nelson made an acclaimed European debut at the Norwegian National Opera in a new production of Pelléas et Mélisande as Pelleas, a role he later sang with Opera de Oviedo and covered at the Glyndebourne Festival. He made his Washington National Opera debut as Maximillian in Francesca Zambello’s production of Candide and debuted at the Michigan Opera Theatre as the Count in Le nozze di Figaro. He was also heard with the Milwaukee Symphony in Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony. In his final season as an Adler Fellow at the San Francisco Opera, he sang mainstage performances of Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Yamadori in Madama Butterfly, and roles in the world premiere of Dream of the Red Chamber.

American soprano Angel Blue has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Munich Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Los Angeles Opera, Teatro alla Scala Milan, Seattle Opera, San Francisco Opera, and Frankfurt Opera, and at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Theater an der Wien, Auditorio Nacional de Música, Seoul Arts Center, and Edinburgh International Festival.

Her operatic roles include Violetta (La Traviata), Mimì (La bohème), Micaëla (Carmen), Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), Helena (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Liù (Turandot), Manon (Manon), Contessa Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Giulietta and Antonia (Les contes d’Hoffmann), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), while on the concert platform she sings Richard Strauss’ Vier letzte Lieder, Mahler’s Symphony No 2, Peri in Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri and Verdi’s Requiem.

She will sing Mimì and Bess for the Metropolitan Opera, Violetta in La Traviata for the Royal Opera House, and Mimì for the Semperoper in Dresden and the Hamburg State Opera.

Pianist, composer, and improviser Charlie Albright is the recipient of numerous national and international awards and competitions, including the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, Gilmore Young Artist Award, Ruhr Klavier Festival Young Artist Award presented by Marc-André Hamelin, and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions.

Mr. Albright has appeared regularly worldwide with such orchestras as the BBC Concert Orchestra (14-concert tour); the Boston Pops; the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia; and the Baltimore, Buffalo, California, Edmonton (Canada), Des Moines, Fort Smith, Houston, Kymi Synfonietta (Finland), Omaha, National Center for the Performing Arts (Beijing), Phoenix, Seattle, San Francisco, and Victoria (Canada) Symphony Orchestras. He has also performed at such venues as Lincoln Center, the NCPA, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Mr. Albright’s worldwide appearances include prominent solo and concerto performances as well as frequent collaborations with artists of all genres, such as cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Joshua Bell, and vocalist Bobby McFerrin. He was named Artist-in-Residence for Harvard University’s Leverett House, a position last filled by Yo-Yo Ma.

In addition to performing, he is a sought-after speaker, masterclass instructor, teacher, and competition judge. His debut commercial recording, Vivace, has sold thousands of copies worldwide, and the first of a 3-part Schubert Series of live, all-Schubert recordings was released in 2017.

Mr. Albright studied with Nancy Adsit in Washington State, and proceeded to become the first classical pianist in the Harvard College/New England Conservatory 5-Year A.B./M.M. joint program, completing a Bachelor’s Degree as an Economics major and Pre-Med student at Harvard, and a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance at NEC, having studied with Wha-Kyung Byun. He graduated with the prestigious Artist Diploma (A.D.) from The Juilliard School, having studied with Yoheved Kaplinsky.

Matthew Worth’s performances in the 2017–18 season include the title role in David T. Little and Royce Vavrek’s JFK with Opéra de Montréal, Bernstein’s Arias and Barcarolles with the New York Festival of Song at Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Laura Kaminsky and Mark Campbell’s As One with Cincinnati Opera, recitals at the University of Cincinnati and Austin Peay State University, as well as continuing his doctoral studies at the University of Cincinnati College–Conservatory of Music, where he will perform Bach’s Mass in B Minor. Next season he will return to Boston Lyric Opera in a title role. Highlights of recent seasons include the title role in the world premiere of JFK with Fort Worth Opera, the world premiere of The Manchurian Candidate with Minnesota Opera, his European debut with Wexford Festival Opera in Silent Night, and Moby Dick at Washington National Opera. He has performed principal roles at Santa Fe Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Castleton Festival, Tanglewood Music Festival, Boston Lyric Opera, and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis.

Tom Fulton is an award-winning actor, director, and educator. He has performed at the Stratford Festival, Tina Packer’s Shakespeare & Company in Massachusetts, the Cleveland Play House, and with the Cleveland Orchestra, among many others. As a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association since 1972, he has been awarded a number of Times Tribute Awards for Outstanding Acting for his performances and portrayals of Dr. Astrov in Uncle Vanya, Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, King Lear in King Lear, Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha, Tartuffe in Tartuffe, and George in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Throughout his career he has performed over 100 roles, ranging from the Devil in Don Juan in Hell to God in Oh, God! In addition to his extensive acting career, he has served as artistic director of Center Repertory Theatre at Playhouse Square in Cleveland, Ohio; Phoenix Theatre Ensemble; Cleveland Theatre Company; and Cain Park Summer Theatre. He is the founder and artistic director of The Academy for the Performing Arts, which over the last ten years has provided high school juniors and seniors with inspiring training experience in the theatre, resulting in over twenty million dollars of scholarships for young talent. He was awarded The Cleveland Critic Circle Award for his production of The Three Sisters and the Northern Ohio Live Artistic Achievement recognition for Hamlet with the Cleveland Theatre Company.

Hai-Ting Chinn performs in a wide range of styles and venues, from Purcell to Pierrot Lunaire, Cherubino to The King & I, J.S. Bach to P.D.Q. Bach. She was featured in the 2011–14 revival and tour of Phillip Glass’ Einstein on the Beach, and she is currently singing the role of Belle in Glass’ La Belle et La Bête at various venues around the world. She has performed with New York City Opera, The Wooster Group, Opera Omnia, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and the Waverly Consort; and on the stages of Carnegie Hall, the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, the Edinburgh Festival, Verbier Festival, Grimeborn Festival, and on London’s West End. Operatic roles include Didone in Cavalli’s La Didone with The Wooster Group, Poppea in Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea and Medea in Cavalli’s Giasone with Opera Omnia, Nicklausse and the Muse in Offenbach’s Les Contes D’Hoffmann, Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Dorabella in Così fan tutte, and in Peter Maxwell Davies’ monodrama The Medium. She has premiered new works by Conrad Cummings, Yoav Gal, Renée Favand-See, Amy Beth Kirsten, Tarik O’Regan, Matthew Schickele, Stefan Weisman, and Du Yun, and she was featured in the 2017 Resonant Bodies Festival, a singer-centered celebration of new music. In April 2016, as an artist-in-residence at HERE Arts Center, Ms. Chinn developed and premiered Science Fair: An Opera With Experiments, a staged show of science set to music.

Daniel Weeks’ varied career encompasses the opera stage, oratorios with orchestras, and recitals. His 2017–18 season includes performances as a soloist in Verdi’s Requiem with Grand Rapids Symphony and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Augusta Symphony Orchestra. Last season, Mr. Weeks performed Handel’s Messiah with the Rochester Philharmonic. Recent season engagements include Belmonte in a concert version of Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with the Princeton University Orchestra, the world-premiere concert staging of Gregory Vajda’s opera Georgia Bottoms with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra, Handel’s Messiah with the Orquesta Sinfónica Naciónal de México, concert performances and a new recording of Mozart’s Requiem with the Winter Park Bach Festival (FL), and Elijah with the South Dakota Symphony. Other highlights include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Dallas Symphony and Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass with the Columbus Symphony and Huntsville Symphony, Verdi’s Requiem with the Orquesta Sinfónica Naciónal de Costa Rica, and Bruckner’s Te Deum and Bach’s Magnificat with the Houston Symphony.

Mr. Weeks serves on the faculties of the University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He and pianist Naomi Oliphant have collaborated on Women of Firsts, a recital showcasing art songs of internationally recognized female composers, which they have recorded with a grant from the University of Louisville.

Jennifer Roderer, mezzo-soprano

In 2017, Jennifer Roderer made her house debut at the Metropolitan Opera in Alfano’s Cyrano de Bergerac. In 2015, she created the role of Shifrah Puah in Ben Moore and Nahma Sandrow’s new opera Enemies, A Love Story for Palm Beach Opera and joined the roster of the Metropolitan Opera where she covered in Lulu and later in Jenůfa.

Ms. Roderer recently made debuts with Spoleto Festival USA as Kabanicha in Kát’a Kabanová; with Chautauqua Opera as Mistress Quickly in Falstaff, a role she has also performed with Opera Roanoke and Crested Butte Music Festival; with Syracuse Opera as Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro and Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd, and reprised Amneris in Aida with the New Jersey Festival Orchestra. Other performances include Azucena in Il Trovatore with Opera Roanoke and the Witch in Hansel & Gretel with Utah Opera, a signature role she has also performed with Opera Company of Philadelphia, New York City Opera, Phoenix Symphony, Tulsa Opera, and Opera Roanoke, among others.

With New York City Opera, Ms. Roderer has performed in a diverse array of operas, including Patience, Plateé, Dead Man Walking, Lysistrata, and Little Women. In 2005, she made a critically acclaimed debut at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires as Fricka in Die Walküre. Other Wagnerian credits include Die Walküre with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera Pacific, and Seattle Opera; a Flower maiden in Parsifal with the Los Angeles Philharmonic; and several orchestral concerts with the Wagner Society of Washington, D.C. in excerpts from Lohengrin (Ortrud), Götterdämmerung (Waltraute), and Siegfried (Erda). Oft-repeated roles include Mrs. Grose in The Turn of the Screw (Toledo Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and Lorin Maazel’s Chateauville Foundation) and Ruth in The Pirates of Penzance (Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Indianapolis Opera, and Opera a la Carte).

Recently Marc Heller made a wildly successful New York City Opera debut as Enrico in Respighi’s La Campana Sommersa. Last season he also performed as Turiddu and Canio in Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci at Opéra-Théâtre de Metz Métropole, and as Don José in Carmen at the Bolshoi Theatre. He has also added Otello to his repertoire and has sung it at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona; Hungarian State Opera; and Theater Erfurt, Germany. Upcoming engagements include Aida with Opera Columbus and Theater Magdeburg, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, and King Roger with Dallas Opera.

Mr. Heller reprised the roles of Radames in Aida with Theater Magdeburg, at the Pyramids at Giza, at Utah Opera, and in Royal Albert Hall, and made debuts in several new productions internationally in such roles as Max in Der Freischütz for Theater Erfurt and Jean de Leyden in Le Prophète in Karlsruhe, Germany.

Having performed the role of Calaf in Turandot in the past few seasons in Minsk, Oviedo, the DomStufen Festival in Erfurt, and with the Pacific Symphony, Mr. Heller then followed with all Verdi roles singing Ernani at the Lithuanian National Opera in Vilnius (Lithuanian premiere), Gustavo in Un Ballo in Maschera in Brazil, and Don Alvaro in La Forza del Destino at the Hessisches Staatstheater in Wiesbaden.

Mr. Heller made his Metropolitan Opera debut opposite Plácido Domingo in the world premiere of Tan Dun’s The First Emperor and returned to sing Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette opposite Anna Netrebko and Roberto Alagna in the HD Simulcast.

Mikhail Svetlov has performed at Teatro Carlo Felice, Arena di Verona, Royal Albert Hall, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and Teatro Alla Scala with the Bolshoi Theatre. He has performed with the Metropolitan, New York City, San Diego, Houston Grand, Florida Grand, Baltimore, Atlanta, Santa Fe, New Zealand, and Hamburg State Operas; and with Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, L’Opéra de Montréal, and Ópera de Bellas Artes. Festival performances include the Wexford, Salzburg, Bregenz, Gastaad, Holland Park Opera, Edinburgh, Britten, and Chaliapin Festivals, and he has appeared with the London, Detroit, and Houston Symphony Orchestras; Berlin Philharmonic; Royal Scottish Orchestra; State Symphony Orchestra of Russia; RAI Orchestra; and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mr. Svetlov has been featured in all the main bass roles in operas including Boris Godunov, Luisa Miller, Macbeth, I Puritani, Faust, Tosca, La Forza del Destino, Nabucco, L’Amore dei tre Re, Bluebeard’s Castle, and Verdi’s Requiem, among dozens of others. His discography includes the world premiere of Rachmaninoff’s The Miserly Knight and Serov’s Judith on Le Chant du Monde, for which he received a Telerama Award; Shostakovich’s The Gamblers on Delta Music; Prokofiev’s Betrothal in a Monastery on BMG Classics; Shostakovich’s 14th Symphony on Virgin Classics; Stravinsky’s Histoire du Soldat on Koch International Classics, for which he received a Grammy nomination; Boris Godunov on Deutsche Gramophone; Tchaikovsky’s The Maid of Orleans for BBC Video; and Boris Godunov for the MET live in HD.
