Description
The American Symphony Orchestra presents an all-Beethoven program at Carnegie Hall, showcasing several rarely performed scores from the composer’s oeuvre, two hundred years following the composer’s death. Experience early works such as the Cantata on the Death of Emperor Joseph II and concert trio Tremate, empi, tremate, that reveal the unmistakable qualities of Beethoven’s genius, through scores of emotional intensity, expressive energy, and dramatic breadth that would come to define his mature voice. Two late works—the overture Consecration of the House , Op. 124, and Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage, Op. 112—reflect Beethoven’s supreme mastery of orchestral writing. The Mass in C Major, Op. 86—Beethoven’s first work composed in a traditional liturgical style—stands among his most compelling, yet underappreciated, masterpieces. Marked by striking dynamic contrasts, evocative orchestral writing, and a deeply personal response to the sacred text, the work reimagines the conventional Mass with remarkable emotional depth and originality.
Tickets will go on sale September 1.
